I'm impressed. Look for a Matt Mays track in a future session of Acts of Volition Radio.

The Matt Mays album is a definite winner, only to be outdone by seeing Matt and El Torpedo live.

I'm guessing you're referring to album artwork on the recent Sonic Records/Warner Music Canada release (digipak) with the black border and not the original Matt Mays self-release (jewel case) which came out in December 2002. The addition of black to the artwork is akin to the mid-nineties fad of pro sports teams having a black version of their uniform. Yuck.

There are some interesting points regarding the artwork on this album, the main one being the striking similarity between it and the artwork on the first solo album from another Canadian rocker. Both albums are self-titled, the solo debut for each artist, released in some form or another by Warner Music and have hand-written liner notes (the handwriting being that of the artist in both cases). The biggest similarity of course is the rural/urban juxtaposition theme used in the respective drawings of their faces.

Now all Matt needs to do is buy a hearse and drive it to California! ;-)
