I would make sure to visit P.S. 1 in Queens, which is near the MoMA QNS. It's a great space (an old school, hence the name) and they have a really interesting collection.

I'd also make a point of heading into Brooklyn for an afternoon/evening. I would spend the afternoon in Williamsburg, checking out the shops, and split up your evening between Cobble Hill and Park Slope. There are some amazing dinner spots and a ton of cool shops. For dinner I'd recommend Chestnut if you wanna be a little fancy and Schnack if you're feeling frugal or if you want to eat the best french fries ever. You can cap off the evening with a movie at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) or Cobble Hill Cinemas (for $5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Oh, and if you're looking for records I'd recommend Other Music, Rocks in Your Head, Rockit Scientist or Sounds if you're looking for really cheap stuff.

If you want more specific information on anything, feel free to ask.

I was only there for 12 hours and the biggest regret I have was not being inside CBGB's.

As a tourist from PEI, I could have just walked around and people-watched for about a day alone. The architecture and hustle-bustle was worth it by itself.

Note: If a rap artist named Da Fear approaches you with his demo CD and tries to sell it to you, run. Worst 4 dollars I ever spent.

Just in case you missed it, Satan's Laundromat has posted a list of things to do in NYC.

My name is Daniel Burka. I'm a web designer living in San Francisco. Currently, I'm one of the founders of Milk Inc.. For several years I was the creative director at Digg and previous to Milk, I was the director of design at Tiny Speck. I grew up in PEI, Canada, where I was one of the founders of silverorange. Aside from obsessing about interface design and css selectors, I'm a frequently-falling rock climber, a lazy cyclist, and an often out-of-bounds disc golfer.
