On Toronto Island, there's a very nice disc golf course (aka frisbee golf course) that runs along a good portion of Wards Island. This was one of the things I was really looking forward to when I moved to Toronto a few months ago. However, although it's easy to find the course itself, it's very difficult to follow the meanderings of the course through the trees. At some points holes backtrack from the previous hole and many of the holes are missing their little maps.
There is one little hand-drawn map you can look at in the information board at the first hole, but other than that you're on your own. My sister and I literally searched for hours online trying to find a decent guide. Well, having not found anything, we took it upon ourselves to draw up something useful especially for first time players. Thanks to 'krsw' who drew the original map which was our foundation.
So, here is our map (48kb PDF) of the disc golf course. It's not perfectly accurate and we haven't had a chance yet to play again since we drew the map to verify each hole. But, it should at least help you around the course and we'll revise it as we find inaccuracies, so please leave any recommendations in the comments.

Yeah, that course is a killer to navigate. I went once and gave up in frustration. Thank goodness for your perseverance! This map is a godsend and I will hopefully be putting it to the test this Sunday when I will be entertaining a friend's sister with a spirited round of disc golf.
I'll let you know how the map works out for us. Thanks a lot for putting it together.

The only map online for this particular course. Well done. You should consider submiting it to Parks and Rec for them to put on their website.
Thanks, and cheers.

Just wondering if anyone knew of a good place in Toronto to buy golf discs? Looking for inexpensive... wondering whether Crappy Tire or Walmart (save the sermon) carry them??
Oh yeah, and wicked map!

Joe: I don't think Canadian Tire or Walmart carry actual disc golf discs though they certainly have normal frisbees which you could play with. I just discovered that Europe Bound carries disc golf discs here in Toronto. They're not bargain basement prices, but $15-20 per disc isn't bad. I also heard rumours that someone on Wards Island was selling used ones that were found with no phone numbers on them. Might be worth investigating. Good luck.

My brother and I were up from buffalo for the yankees series and played the ward Island course on sunday am. Your map was awesome. I didn't see any of the alternate baskets though. thanks for the effort and making it available, it saved us a ton of time.

The main ferry (http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/parks/island/summerschedule.htm) is $6 round trip. You pay on the way out and it's free on the way back. I've heard about a ferry that takes people to the yacht club on the island for $3 one way (but you could grab the free ferry back) but I've never taken it. Discs are also available - #9, 5th Street Wards island. It's a house with a small shop in it. Behind teh baseball diamond. The selection is limited but good enough. $15 -$20

www.discgolfontario.com is the best source for schedule related stuff. They usually post all the league and special event dates and times for the island course.
