THANK YOU!!!!
I had the same problem with a Belkin Wireless F5D7000.

Talked with an idiot at the Belkin Support which only solution was to try to reinstall the driver 10 times...

I found you site - And your solution worked!
Thank you again - You are my hero!! :0)

Any ideas about a cardbus?

I tried the solution on the off chance it might work, but no luck.

It's a 32 bit PCMCIA card, (Belkin, hehe), and gives the code 10 error.
Still works in linux, and windows 98 though... just xp being a biatch

Hi! I just tried your solution, but when I right click on the PCI folder there isn't a "Permissions" option. Any other solutions?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks!

Judith

Regedt32 instead of regedit in win2k will do the trick. Just navigate to the right key and select permissions out of the security menu. Whether it'll fix things or not is another story. It didn't for me.

i have been having the same problems but with a wireless netgear wg111t. I have tried your solution but it has not worked - can you help

This solution worked wonders. My business partner was at a customer's house and ran into this problem. With a simple Google search I found this page and it fixed the problem.

I am having the problem of not finding permissions. I did Regedt32 instead of regedit but the PCI won't right click to give me the permissions.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks Chris

Hi I have a Belkin Wireless Adapter possessing the problem described, but the solution didn't work for me... Please help.

Clark -

Ok my dad. I am installing this wireless network adapter on Windows 2003 Small Business Editor, and I accidentally used wrong driver and now the Windows keeps asking me to install that old setup file all the time. I have uninstalled the wrong driver from Windows. When I chose Update New Driver or anything similiar and select the new installation files the Windows keeps forcing me to go for the old wrong file! What do I do please? Thanks in advance.

I have a somewhat similar problem on a Tosh laptop with the PCMCIA card and driver. Originally it came with a driver on CD which was outdated (non XP I suppose) - it worked only in SOME places. When I installed the latest driver all worked well, for about a month! Now I have to repeatedly uninstall then reinstall almost every time I boot. I still get the code 10 error, but sometimes it works OK. Any comments would be appreciated, since I'm very hesitant about touching the registry. Thanks, I'd appreciate some help. Harry

I think this problem is related somehow to windows updates (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/qa/qa20050808.shtml - about half way down the page.) Im assumin that the permissions thing only works with PCI (or MiniPCI) cards.

I also have a wireless problem that needs fixing, not miniPCI. I'm gonna try and break my computer by changing a load of permissions in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Enum area and see what happens. If you dont get a reply from me, assume I killed my computer with a lump hammer

Paul -

For Bev ... owner of NetGear WG111T ... .you have to open the permissions for the USB sub-key as opposed to PCI sub-key, since this adapter is a USB device.

Worked for me (atleast for now). Cheers.

I tried this, half heartedly!! Meaning that I could not follow the instructions exactly cos regedit did not show identical to that given. Please tell me if I should click on PCI. I am getting the problem code 10 with a Belkin PCMCIA card and using driver F5D6020.exe I'd really like to cure the problem without reformatting!
Thanks if anyone can help.

i had the same problem but i'm on my laptop. i was on my messager and all of a sudden i lose my connection. Also this not my first time having this problem. It happen to me at fairfield inn and now comfort inn. After awhile of thinking what could be wrong and why was my card not working. I turn off my computer andI walked outside with my laptop and walked back into the hotel. I found that i got my card to work again. That was my solution to the problem.

Ugh -

Have tried the regedit fix but it failed to work, I have the Belkin Bus card is the reg fix correct for this

I had the same problemm as Clarke (with a Belkin 802.11g F5d7000). Installed the Installation Software but Error 10. Even when I deleted the files and updated with new drivers from the Belkin Site, the system wass still looking for the old driver name 2500.sys. Will try above method.

I had exactly the same problem: used the wireless card for weeks, and suddenly it started giving code 10's. Used the registry fix, reinstalled the drivers and now it works like a charm - Thanks!

Sorry - I'm running WinXP-SP2, and the card is a Linksys PCI 802.11g

This fix did not work for me. I've had an error 10 before... Can't remember the specifics but it involves removing an entry in the regisry although I complete forget where it is.

Joe -

I stand corrected, this fix did work for me, although I had to reinstall the drivers again after walking through all those steps. and to the pervious poster, this problem was completely random to me, I didn't update my system nor did I install any new hardware/software to my system. Perhaps its just another windows bug :)

Cheers,

Joe

I had the same "code 10" problem, and the steps outlined above didn't help. However, some more searching revealed the following comment:

<i>Code 10 in this context means no resources free so the driver can't start, earlier you were advised to try your card in another slot, this message confirms this 'need' ...;) Techies call this 'slot shuffle', its not uncommon to 'need' to do this

When your machine starts up it does a 'sum' based on what resources it has & what IRQs & memory ranges they can have or use, based partially on their physical position in certain slots. In other words each slot has a range of resources it can use & each slots range is different, moving pci devices about will or should allow all these to work together correctly, you want drivers handy for any devices you need to move, though very often windows will detect & install drivers itself especially if it already had drivers (but not always).

There are other approaches but this honestly is best/simplest ..</i>

This worked for me, so hopefully, it will help you out too.

Nice one, I have changes the registry setting (XP Pro) and rebooted, I did not bother with un-install and install. Net Gear WG111T wiuld go to code 10 within 15 mins of booting (all on its own). If you changed screens on the WG111T utility the connection failed instantly (not all the time with code 10). I have now been connected fot 6 hours with no failures and changed Netgear utilitilty screens some 50 times. I still have a connection. Watch this space for any update.

Computers PLUS -

I have been working on trying to install a Belkin F5D7001 wireless card on a 2000 pro machine for the past week for a customer. Always came up with a code 10 error. Tried Belkin Support and they were useless. Just about ready to give up until I found this site. Uninstalled everything pertaining to the card. Went into regedt32 and set permissions for Win 2000. Restarted the computer and installed the software for the card. Turned off the computer and installed the card. Started the computer and I still got the code 10 error. So I went to the device manager and disable the card and restarted the computer. I then enabled the card and it started working.

If it wasn't for this site, I would have given up and eaten alot of time and the installation bill. Thank You!!!
