I've made the new logo for my website based on the 'concept' of a commercial aircraft tail (note: not an actual tail though!) - and in the colour yellow. And I decided on this recently without having seen your blog article above or ever visiting the US Airways site....spooky eh? An explaination for my site logo will appear on the site soon (and yes, I haven't posted a link to the site at the moment, because it is actually undergoing a re-design!) Nice blog - it was cool to look at a collection of other favicons and see how varied they really are!
